Ram-Hanuman Milan: Story of Devotion and Complete Surrender
This story teaches us that true love and devotion to God make you fearless and selfless.
Story
Saumya was a young girl around 8 years old. Right from a young age, she had a keen interest in religion and philosophies. She never purchased fairy tales and mystery books. Whenever she visited a bookshop or went to a book fair, she would purchase books on Krishna Bhagwan, Ramji, and other storybooks based on Hindu Philosophy. She would ask her mother to order books from the myNachiketa website, as she loved their books on Hindu Philosophy and Gita teachings.
One day, she was sitting in a park and was lost in her thoughts. Her friends kept calling her name, but she was completely absorbed in her thoughts.
Ahaana, her friend shook her up and said, “What are you thinking? Where are you lost?”
Dhruv, another friend said, “She is daydreaming.” Everyone laughed including Saumya herself.
Saumya said, “I was thinking about the story of Ramaji and Hanuman Milan that I read yesterday. What a wonderful story! I was imagining and recreating all the events in my mind.”
All the friends shouted together, “What Story? We also want to know about it.”
Saumya said, “Alright! I will tell you the story but on one condition. All of you will sit quietly.
Now listen!
When Bhagwan Ram was serving his exile, he lived with his wife Devi Sita and younger brother Laxmana in the forests of Chitrakoot. After spending a few years there, they moved to the forests of Panchvati. In Panchvati, the demon king Ravana forcefully took Mata Sita to his place in Lanka, as he wanted to marry her.
Thereafter Shri Ram and his brother Lakshmana began their search for her. Their journey took them towards the south when they reached Rushyamukh mountain where lived Vanaras (monkey-like beings) ruled by King Sugriva. King Sugriva, who was dethroned by his brother Vali took shelter in the forest of Rushyamukh mountain.
Sugriva would always send his trusted advisor, Hanumanji, to keep watch for enemies. One day Hanumanji, who was a great devotee of Bhagwan Rama was roaming in the forest of Rushyamukh mountain.
Hanumanji saw two men walking toward the mountain. Both of them were wearing simple clothes and appeared heroic and dignified. Their personality was in contrast to their appearance. Hanuman noticed their grace and divinity and felt an immediate devotion toward them.
To gather information about them, Hanumanji transformed himself into a wise Brahmin and approached them. With humility and respect, he inquired, “Who are you? You seem to be wandering in this forest like a rishi (sage), but your appearance, attitude, and weapons make you look like warriors. May I know your real identity and your purpose of being here?”
Ramji smiled at Hanuman’s sincerity, introduced himself, and told about Devi Sita’s abduction by Ravana. Bhagwan Rama also asked for help in finding her.
When Hanumanji heard Shri Ram’s words, his heart filled with joy and devotion. He realized that this was none other than Bhagwan Rama. Dropping his disguise, Hanumanji knelt before Shri Rama and revealed his true form. With folded hands, he said, “I am Hanuman, a humble servant of Sugriva. I have waited my entire life for this moment, to serve you.”
Ramji was deeply touched by Hanumanji's humility, devotion, and willingness to serve. He embraced Hanumanji, recognizing his pure heart. Along with a physical meeting, it was also a spiritual connection, establishing Hanumanji as Ramji’s most loyal and devoted servant.
This episode of Ram-Hanuman Milan symbolises the bond of love and trust between the Bhagwan and his devotee. Hanuman's devotion to Shri Ram is revered as the ultimate expression of bhakti (devotion) and surrender.
Hanuman after meeting Bhagwan Ram found himself more powerful, wise, and fearless as he was a loving devotee and follower of Prabhu Ram."
All the children were in awe after listening to the story. There was a huge smile on their face. They shouted together, “Jai Shri Ram.
