Krishna’s flute
This story teaches us to have complete faith in God as he does the best for us.
Story
This story takes you to Krishna’s childhood in Vrindavan and reveals how he got his magical flute. Once, Krishna was walking in the gardens of Vrindavan. All plants were swaying joyfully, flowers were blooming, birds were chirping melodious songs, but a dry bamboo tree looked upset and stood quietly.
Krishna walked to the bamboo tree and asked, “Why are you sad?”
The bamboo tree replied, “I don’t bear sweet fruits and green leaves, birds don’t sit on me and sing songs. I am of no use to anyone.”
On hearing this, Krishna smiled and said, “ If you offer yourself to me I can make you my most loved and precious thing. I will carve you into my flute, the melodious sound of which will make everyone happy.
After a moment of thought, the bamboo surrendered, saying, "Okay, Krishna, I trust you."
Krishna carefully carved and shaped the bamboo into a flute. The bamboo happily bore the pain and turned into a beautiful flute. From that day on, Krishna and his flute became inseparable. The sweet melodies of Krishan’s magical flute mesmerized the people of Vrindavan. Even the plants and animals swayed with joy on the tunes of Krishan’s flute. People called his flute Murali, and his beloved Krishna as Muralidhar.
People of Vrindavan asked the flute one day, "Why are you so special to Krishna? What's your secret?"
The flute replied humbly, "The secret is that I am empty inside. I have nothing of my own, I am completely at the service of my God (Krishna)."
People of Vrindavan learned that surrendering to God means trusting His plans completely, even when things seem difficult. It reminded them that God always knows what is best for us, even when we cannot see it ourselves.
And so, the story of Krishna and the bamboo flute teaches us to trust in God's plans, to surrender ourselves completely to His will, and to find joy in being used for His purpose.
The devotees of Krishna always wanted to know where is Krishna’s flute now. But there is no accurate answer to this question and it’s still a mystery.
