New Year Story
This story teaches us to learn new things in life and to keep our mind and thoughts fresh and new.
Story
The Sharma family from Mumbai was very excited and busy packing as they would visit a hill station this New Year. The family had four members: mother (Anjali), father (Rakesh), their 10-year-old son (Aarav), and 8-year-old daughter (Meera). The kids were thrilled because it was their first trip to a hill station. They were going to the snowy hills of Shimla!
They took a night train and reached Shimla the next day. The cool breeze and green mountains made the kids even happier. In the morning, after leaving the hotel, they first went to a beautiful lake. There, Aarav and Meera enjoyed boating. The cool water and the lovely views around made everyone very joyful and delighted.
That afternoon, they went to a park where adventurous activities like rock climbing and trekking were happening. Rakesh taught the kids how to do rock climbing. At first, the kids were scared. But Rakesh explained to them, "Kids, we can learn new things only when we overcome our fears."
Their father's words made the kids feel confident, and soon they started enjoying these activities.
The next day, they went to a nearby village, where they met some new people. The villagers told the Sharma family about their culture and traditions. Aarav and Meera also learned how to make clay pots from the villagers.
The kids were very happy because they got to know and learn so many new things. Their New Year fun became double!
In the evening, they went to a temple in the valley. There, they prayed and shared Prasad with poor people. Outside the temple, under a tree, they saw a sadhu sitting in meditation.
The sadhu called them over and asked them to tell him about themselves. Rakesh told the sadhu that they had come from Mumbai to Shimla for a New Year trip. The sadhu asked them to sit and then asked the kids, "So, children, what new things have you done here?"
Aarav and Meera said together, "We did boating, and rock climbing, and yes, we also learned how to make clay pots. It was so much fun! We also learned a lot about the people here."
The sadhu smiled and said, "That’s very good. We should always try to learn something new. But do you know, the real newness is inside us? When our mind is fresh and our thoughts are new and positive, we find true happiness and real newness in life. Even if the body grows old, our thoughts and feelings should always stay new and good.
The New Year reminds us to stay full of energy and keep our ideas new and fresh."
The sadhu's words touched everyone's heart. The kids understood that the real New Year is when we feel new and fresh within ourselves.
This trip not only gave them the joy of visiting new places but also taught them important lessons about life.
At the end of the trip, the Sharma family returned home with a new mindset and lots of energy. The kids promised that they would learn something new every year and keep their minds fresh and happy.
