Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was a great saint and spiritual Guru from India. He was born in 1836 in a small village called Kamarpukur, in West Bengal. From a young age, he showed a deep love for God. He believed that the purpose of life was to love and serve God. He had a special devotion to Goddess Kali, whom he saw as the Mother of the universe. Ramakrishna taught that we should love God like a child loves its mother, with trust and devotion. He also believed that helping others is the same as serving God because God lives in all people. He was the Guru of the great philosopher Swami Vivekananda.
myNachiketa presents 5 teachings of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa for children to learn kindness, faith, and the importance of loving and serving God.
1. Unity of Religions
Sri Ramakrishna emphasized that all religions lead to the same ultimate truth. He said, “Yato mat, tato path” which means "As many faiths, so many paths," meaning that everyone can find God in their way. He showed great respect for all religions and even practised them to understand their teachings. Sri Ramakrishna explained that no matter how we pray or what religion we follow; we are all trying to reach the same God.

So, children, this teaches us to respect everyone's beliefs and be kind to people who are different from us. It reminds us that love and understanding are more important than arguing about whose path is right.
2. Experience of God
Sri Ramakrishna stressed the importance of realizing God directly rather than having intellectual debates. Personal experience of the Bhagwan was central to his teachings. Sri Ramakrishna taught that we should try to feel and experience God, just like we experience the warmth of the sun or the taste of our favourite food. He believed that simply reading about God or talking about Him was not enough—we need to feel God's presence in our hearts.

Children, this teaching encourages us to pray sincerely, think about God, and do good things so we can feel His presence in our lives. It’s like becoming friends with God and knowing Him for real, not just through words.
3. Simplicity and Purity - the way to reach God
A simple and pure heart, free from ego and selfish desires, is essential for spiritual progress. Sri Ramakrishna often said, "God can be realized only in simplicity." Sri Ramakrishna said that to know God, we need a heart that is pure, full of love and free from ego. He believed that when we let go of selfishness, pride, and anger, our hearts become clear and calm and we start getting closer to God.

Children, imagine a glass of water that is muddy—you can't see through it. But if the water is clean and still, you can see everything. In the same way, with a simple and pure heart, it becomes easier to feel God's love and kindness.
4. God-Realization is the Ultimate Goal
Sri Ramakrishna said that the primary purpose of human life is to realize God. All other activities should lead to this ultimate goal. It means that the highest purpose of life is to discover and experience the presence, of God, within oneself and in all other beings.

Dear children, many things in life are important, like studying, playing, and spending time with family and friends, but all of these are part of our journey to finding the treasure that is finding God. The ultimate goal is to feel the deep happiness and love that comes from knowing God, who is always with us, helping and loving us.
5. God can be with form or formless
Shri Ramakrishna said that God appears to a devotee in the way they seek Him. To some, God appears as a personal deity with form, while to others, God is vast, infinite and formless. Devotees see God in different forms, such as Krishnji, Ramji, Shivji, Durga Maa, or Jesus. They easily connect with God by expressing their devotion to these forms. Some devotees pray to the infinite, formless God to connect themselves with the higher self.
Children, God is like formless water which can take different forms but remain the same at the core. Similarly, God can take a form, have no form, or be beyond anything we can imagine.
