Ganesh Chaturthi Essay

वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ ।

निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा ॥

Hello to one and all!

Today we have gathered here to honour one of the most beloved Gods of Hinduism, Bhagwan Ganesh. His elephant head and unique appearance set him apart from other gods, but what he is revered for is his wisdom, kindness and humility. He is the son of Bhagwan Shiv and Mata Parvati. He is also the first worshipped God in Hinduism, this very fact speaks about his greatness.

Every year in August or September, we celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi to honour the birth of Bhagwan Ganesh. During Ganesh Chaturthi, we invite Bhagwan Ganesh to our place to shower our love and devotion on him and pray to him to remove our problems and bless us with wisdom, health and prosperity. Bhagwan Ganesh is also known as the 'Vighna Harta', the one who removes obstacles from our lives. He gives us the wisdom to walk the right path and do the right things.

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated for about 11 days, devotees place the statue of Bhagwan Ganesh in their homes and temples. People gather to sing and pray to Bhagwan Ganesha, with Ganesh Aartis being especially important and loved by everyone. Some of the most popular aartis sung during Ganesh Chaturthi are "Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh," "Sukhkarta Dukharta," and "Sindoor Laal Chadayo." Bhagwan Ganesh is offered delicious sweets, among which Modak and Laddos are his favourites.

Now, let me tell you the story behind Ganesh Chaturthi.

Bhagwan Shiva and Mata Parvati lived happily on Mount Kailash. One day, Parvati created a boy named Ganesh to guard her while she took a bath. When Shiva came home, Ganesha stopped him from entering, which led to a fight. Shiva, not knowing who the boy was, accidentally hurt him. After knowing the truth, Shiva brought Ganesha back to life with an elephant's head and accepted him as his son.

The festival wraps up on Anant Chaturdashi with Ganesh Visarjan, when Ganesha heads back home, taking all our troubles with him. On the day of Visarjan (immersion) the Ganesh idols are taken out in grand ceremonial parades. We bid goodbye to Bhagwan Ganesha with music, dance, and slogans such as “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangal Murti Morya (Hail Lord Ganesh). Afterwards, the idols are immersed in rivers, lakes, or seas.

All of us eagerly wait for this festival all year. Although Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country, the spirit of joy is the highest in Maharashtra.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a reminder of the greatest truth that life is always changing and that every ending leads to a new beginning. When Ganesh leaves, it marks the end of a fun celebration, but it also signals the start of a fresh journey for all of us.

Bhagwan Ganesh inspires us to be intelligent, humble, and determined. We should never fear the obstacles in our path but face them with courage, believing that Bhagwan Ganesha is always there to guide us.

Wishing you all a happy Ganesh Chaturthi.
