We meditate on Hanumanji, the son of Mata Anjana and the son of Vayu (the wind god). May Hanumanji inspire and illuminate our minds.

Hanuman Jayanti is a special festival that celebrates the birthday of Hanumanji, one of the most loved and powerful gods in the Hindu Religion. Hanumanji is known for his courage, strength, and devotion. This day is celebrated with great joy and devotion across India. It is celebrated on different dates in different parts of India. In most parts of India, it is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Chaitra (March or April).

Who is Hanumanji?

Hanumanji is often shown as a powerful God who has the body of a human and a monkey. He has a long, curved tail and is usually depicted holding a golden mace (gada), a weapon he uses to defeat demons. Hanumanji is the greatest devotee of Shri Ram. He stands as a symbol of unconditional love and selfless service as he goes beyond boundaries to help Shri Ram find Sita Mata and defeat the demon king Ravana. He is sometimes shown with sindoor covering his body, representing his love and dedication to Bhagwan Ram. He is the son of King Kesari and Devi Anjana. Hanumanji is admired for his superhuman strength, cleverness and devotion to Bhagwan Ram. Hanumanji was born due to the blessings of Vayu, the wind God, due to which Hanumanji is also called Pawan Putra, the son of wind.

The Story of Hanumanji’s Birth

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful and kind-hearted woman named Anjana. She prayed to Bhagwan Shiva to have a powerful son. Bhagwan Shiva was pleased with her devotion and decided to bless her. At the same time, the God of the Wind, Vayu, also wanted to help Anjana. So, with Bhagwan Shiva’s blessing, a miracle occurred.

One day, a bowl of Kheer meant for King Dasharatha (the father of Prabhu Shri Ram) was carried away by a bird. Vayu, the Wind God, guided the Kheer to Anjana, who was meditating in the forest. Devi Anjana ate the Kheer, she was blessed with a divine child who gained superpowers from different Gods and was called Hanuman.
