1. Doha
जहाँ काम वहाँ नाम नहीं, जहाँ नाम वहाँ काम।
दोनों कभी नहीं मिलते, रवि रजनी इक धाम।
Jaha kam taha nam nahi, Jaha nam taha kam
Dono kabhu nahi milte, Ravi rajni ek dham
Meaning
Kabir Das says that where there is desire and greediness, there can be no devotion (God’s name). Where there is devotion (God’s name), there can be no desire and greediness. The two can never coexist, just as the sun and the night cannot share the same sky.

सुख सागर का शील है, कोई न पावे थाह।
शब्द बिना साधू नहीं, द्रव्य बिना नहीं शाह॥
Sukh sagar ka sheel hai, koi na paave thaah.
Shabd bina sadhu nahi, dravya bina nahi shah.
Meaning
Kabir Das says that just by looking at the calmness of the ocean, no one can measure its depth. A sage can not be recognised if he does not share his wisdom, and a king without resources cannot be called a king.

फल कारण सेवा करे, करे ना मन से काम।कहे कबीर सेवक नहीं, चाहे चौगुना दाम॥
Phal kaaran seva kare, kare na man se kaam.
Kahe Kabir sevak nahi, chahe chauguna daam.
Meaning
Kabir Das says that a person who does something just for a reward (phal) and not with sincerity, from the heart, is not a true worker. Such a person demands four times the payment for the work they do.

जग में बैरी कोई नहीं, जो मन शीतल होय।यह आपा तो डाल दे, दया करे सब कोए॥
Jag mein bairee koi nahin, jo man sheetal hoy.
Yeh aapa to daal de, daya kare sab koe.
Meaning
Kabir Das says that there is no enemy in the world if your heart remains peaceful and calm. When you get rid of your ego and show kindness, everyone will treat you with compassion.

Kabira garav na keejiye, kabhi na haasye koi.
Ajahu naav samudra mein, na jaane ka hoye.
Meaning
Kabir says, Don’t be proud of yourself and never laugh at anybody, as time and circumstances keep changing for everyone. Always remember that your life is like a boat on the ocean; you don’t know what might happen next.

कुटिल वचन सबतें बुरा, जासे होत न हार।
साधु वचन जल रूप है, बरसै अमृत धार।।
Kuttil bachan sabse bura, jaase hot na haar.
Sadhu bachan jal roop hai, barse amrit dhar.
Meaning
Kabir Das says that harsh words are the worst, just like when a hand strikes (hits) instead of helping. Words of a wise person are like water; they nourish and bring wisdom and sweetness, like a shower of nectar.

खीर रूप हरि नाँव है, नीर आन व्यौहार।
हंस रूप कोइ साध है, तत का जाणहार॥
Kheer roop Hari naav hai, neer aan vyavahaar.
Hans roop koi saadh hai, tat ka jaanhaar.
Meaning
Kabir Das says that truth or God's name is like sweet kheer (a rice-milk dessert), and everything else in the world is like water mixed with it. Only a true saint is like a swan, who knows how to separate the essence (the kheer) from the rest (the water) — that is, who can recognise what is truly valuable (God’s name) in this world full of distractions.

पाँच तत्त्व के भीतरे, गुप्त बस्तु अस्थान।
बिरला मर्म कोई पाइ हैं, गुरु के शब्द प्रमान॥
Paanch tattva ke bheetare, gupt bastu asthaan.
Birla marm koi paai hai, guru ke shabd pramaan.
Meaning
Kabir Das says that inside the five things—earth, water, fire, air, and sky, that make up everything, there is something very special and hidden, which is God or the truth. Only a rare and wise person can understand this secret, as said by the Gurus.

रात गवाई सोय के, दिवस गवाया खाय।
हीरा जन्म अनमोल था, कौड़ी बदले जाय॥
Raat gavai soy ke, divas gavai khay.
Heera janam anmol tha, kaudi badle jay.
Meaning
Kabir says that people spend the night sleeping and the day eating, wasting their precious time; life is very special and valuable, like a diamond which turns out to be like a shell (worthless), if you don't utilise your time well.

संगति सो सुख उपजे, कुसंगति सो दुःख होय।
कह कबीर तह जाइए, साधू संग जहां होय॥
Sangati so sukh upje, kusangati so dukh hoy.
Kah Kabir tah jaiye, sadhu sang jahan hoy.
