Swami Vivekananda was born in a Bengali family in Kolkata on 12th January 1863. His real name was Narendranath Datta. His father Shri Vishvanath Datta was an attorney in the high court of Kolkata. Vivekananda was a very intelligent, learned, liberal individual who was greatly influenced by his mother, Bhubaneswari Devi. He was inclined to worship from the very childhood and took to meditation. This inclination later transformed him from Narendranath to Swami Vivekananda.


He had studied Vedas and Upanishads in detail and his attitude towards religion and philosophy was very scientific.

1. Physical development
